By definition of Masculinity males are aggressive strong independent sexual abusive and authoritative beings Tough guise If a male is unable to conform to these characteristics they are seen as wimpy weak girly emotional Tough guise Masculinity has become some type of mask or act that males have to act or perform in order to be accepted by society Unlike femininity masculinity is well hidden among society and so it has become something that we take for granted in our everyday lives Todd W Reeser 2010 pg 1 It isnt until extreme situations that it becomes visible Examples of extremities include a range from unathletic males and crying or emotional males to body builders who over exaggerate what masculinity is Todd W Reeser 2010 pg 1 the norms and ideals of masculinity have been weaved so much into society that it is hard to realize that the behavior we have depicted as normal is actually masculinity in disguise A part of being male is to be aggressive A male being aggressive towards his friends can be somewhat entertaining but because of the need for power they commonly turn their aggression towards these less masculine males This action is more commonly known as bullying when a more masculine male picks on and exposes the lack of masculinity in their victim So males who have been victimized find other ways to redeem themselves as a result of the way society is built up it is very shameful when a male is unable to act how a male should And so they try to prove either to themselves or society that they are in fact masculine either by the games they play or the shows they watch on TV The level of violence that takes part by behaving aggressively towards individuals who are less masculine than they are younger siblings and friends and by depending or turning to physical violence by the use of a weaponMales are
