Observational learning is a strong way of social learning It happens by the processing of information displayed by models or examples The information can be shown verbally textually through audio and through actions either by live or non-live models like television movies and the InternetMy 11th grade teacher told me about this man named Albert Bandura who published an important study on observational learning where he demonstrated that children could learn violent play behaviors by watching people they are always around such as mom or dad In one of his experiments a woman punched a clown shouting sockeroo She kicked it sat on it hit with a little hammer and so on shouting various aggressive phrases Albert showed this film to groups of kindergartners who really liked to see the woman beat up a clown and afterward were let out to go play The children observers then went into the play room with pens and clipboards in hand A brand new bobo doll and a few little hammers were set in the playroom and some of the little kids where beating the daylights out of the bobo doll They punched it and shouted sockeroo kicked it sat on it hit it with the little hammers and so on In other words they copied the young lady in the film and quite precisely tooHow observational learning works is basically how you pay attention to another persons behavior and its consequences Once you retain the observed response this is where you store a mental representation of what you saw in your memory you finally enact the model you observed under similar circumstances There are four step patterns which combines a cognitive view and an operant view of learning There is Attention Retention Reproduction and Motivation These steps are the way your mind works of learning When you are observing others you can tell that people are doing the exact same thing but they
