How do you feel about the fact that some people take their next meal for granted when so many other people are starving in the world -Suzanne Collins When thinking about the dystopian totalitarian government that Panem is readers usually do not think that it connects to the politics in our world today Although it does The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is more prevalent than most would like to think Our society today struggles with the same issues as Panems government for example class struggle control and a false sense of hope First there is a class struggle that links todays world and the futuristic Panem In the country of Panem most people live in the districts fighting to stay alive while the others live in the Capitol getting all the benefits of the districts work eating and eating and watching the district children fight to death for entertainment Although our world is not as harsh watching death as entertainment we do have class struggles daily The Capitol constantly looks down on the districts to the point of dehumanisation to justify inequality For example in The Hunger Games as Katniss is getting prepped by the higher up Capitol stylists The three step back and admire their work Excellent You almost look like a human being nowCollins62 These stylists show exactly how low they think of the district people In our world an example would be the persecution of the Jews during World War II The society thinks so poorly of a group so it makes it okay to punish them In todays society the rich are becoming wealthier and the poor poorer Many believe that Suzanne Collins wrote this book to speak to teens our future leaders as to what could happen if our society gets worse The rich have control over the poor because of all their money Many people are born into having wealth while others are born with nothing and
