Do you ever wonder what is was like in the Dominican Republic during the rule of Rafael Trujillo Trujillo was a mean dictator who thought he was better than everybody It was hard to live in the Dominican Republic when he was president people were treated like slave Trujillo took control over military all major industries and financial institutions and also ordered the Parsley Massacre These are just a few of the many things he did to the people well he was rulingDuring Trujillos rule he took over the military He relied on the military as his primary support Armed forces personnel received generous pay and perquisites under his rule and their ranks and equipment inventories expanded Trujillo maintained control over the officer corps through fear patronage and the frequent rotation of assignments He made the military kill people that were against him Also during Trujillos rule he took over all major industries and financial institutions The country saw some improvements to its economy but those were mainly limited to the capital city Meanwhile in more rural areas entire peasant communities were uprooted to clear the way for Trujillos new sugar plantation He was only making changes to benefit himself Another thing during Trujillos rule he ordered the Parsley Massacre The Parsley Massacre was the execution of the Haitian population living in the borderlands with Haiti Trujillo reportedly was acting in response to reports of Haitians stealing cattle and crops from Dominican borderland residents Dominican troops killed Haitians with guns machetes clubs and knives During the massacre he killed over 20000 Haitians These are just a few of the many things he did to the people well he was ruling He was a dictator who treated his people like slaves By him taking control over military all major industries and financial institutions and also ordered the Parsley Massacre He caused more harm than good he was only out
