Should citizens whistleblowing against the United States government be protected with greater immunity According to Websters dictionary a whistleblower is a person who informs on a person or organization engaged in an illicit activity Had it not been for whistleblowers America would not be where it is today The government treats whistleblowers as criminals but the government is the one committing the crime This is very wrong They try to make whistleblowers look bad to cover up their messy work America needs to realize who the real criminal isOne whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg taking a huge risk in 1971 gave the Pentagon papers to the New York Times He says that he realized that the government had been deliberately misleading the public about the course of the war and was convinced that it was wrong By doing this he let Americans know what was going on He should not have been treated as a criminal because people deserve to know Had it not been for the noble whistleblower Ellsberg was America may have remained uninformedEllsberg was really brave to do what he did Another brave person Thomas Drake who worked for NSA was charged with espionage for giving out information about the company wiretapping It is stated that Drakes role was exposed and he feared he might lose his job for violating an agreement not to disclose information People like Drake must decide if what the business is doing is really in the best interest of the workers and citizens or if it will harm them They also must realize that if they choose to tell their job and high reputation with government officials is at stake The businesses such as NSA do not want people to have conspiracies against them yet they are responsible for themJulian Assange started a project called WikiLeaks he could break into other computers using his own personal computer He had a small team of experts who helped him hack into
