A ruler may feel they have their power through the people or through the divine right of kings but throughout history we have seen what happens when a ruler gains too much control Whichever way it goes the result is never good it always ends in the citizens rebelling against the source of power or even overthrowing it After the end of the French and Indian war the colonists felt the constitution was at risk of corruption because of the King and they felt it was their duty to protect the English Constitution Englands form of government was a mixed constitution which established a constitutional monarchy Lopez p 79 The Englishmen considered this to be the best form of government that could have ever been created the goal of this constitution was to preserve liberty and it was achieved by checks and balances There were three social orders in Great Britain which were the royalty nobility and commons The King represents the royalty and parliament has two houses the house of lords- represents the nobility and the house of commons - represents the commons people Each of these branches had their own powers rights and prerogatives As long as each one did what they had to do they could check and balance the other branches power and these three working properly and correctly would together preserve libertyAlthough technically speaking the constitution sounded like a marvelous idea it still had some downfalls There could be a danger present to Englands mixed constitution
