Online piracy has been a huge ongoing issue that needs to be put to a halt Many people believe that SOPA Stop Online Piracy Act is an evil bill that should not have passed Many people protested against it in different ways Example of this would be when major websites had a blackout day or when people changed their profile pictures of Facebook to show they are against SOPA Many people thought that SOPA would take away their internet freedom from them and that is why they had such negative perception of it from the public point of view but this is not true Lamar Smith a Republican Representative of Texas chairs the House of Judiciary Committee and was a sponsor of SOPA stated that the sole purpose for SOPA is to stop foreign criminals who steal and sell American technology and intellectual property He also adds that SOPA will then benefit our economy since now it suffers from people taking away jobs of those in America Furthermore Goodman is the executive director of Democracy now and gives a background of SOPA Hart writes scholarly sources and Polone is an agent turned manager turned producer both of these men blame the entertainment industry for causing this mess Cagle is a cartoonist for MSNBC and shows what occurs everyday with this issue in a cartoon Lastly Lerangiss is a writer for the New York Times and he tells a story of how this has impacted himself many of us All of these people and myself come from different backgrounds yet we all know the truth about this issue and agree on one thing There are many reasons as to why a bill like SOPA should now be passed to help others in our country to stop criminals from stealing and to have justice set for these wrong doings that have been occurring for so many years The recent history of stopping piracy started off with
