Gender identity disorder is a diagnosis in the DSM Some believe that this accurately reflects the nature of this condition as a mental illness I believe that gender identity is not a mental illness but a physical condition it is a way of living life Stereotyping people with gender identity issues and pressuring them to be adopt normal identities is harmful and misguided For these reasons this diagnosis should be removed from the DSMIn society we have norms expectations and ways people should act and we have ways of classifying people and things as normal or abnormal The normal way to live your life is as a heterosexual male or a heterosexual female In contrast people who dont feel comfortable with themselves or who arent comfortable with their assigned gender like a transgender are made to feel abnormal Being abnormal is to be noticed and discriminated against because of the way you talk act and dress Why do we have to divide people into categories like normal and abnormal We notice stereotype and discriminate against people who are the slightest bit different from the norm because we feel uncomfortable around them We perhaps feel better about ourselves if everyone knows that the people who have been classified as abnormal are truly different I believe that is one of the reasons why Gender Identity Disorder is a diagnosis in the DSM This is because it gives these humans that dont feel comfortable a reason why these abnormal people are different These people in society who stereotype and discriminate cant see that the abnormal people believe they are living through the wrong gender and want to make it correct one This is the wrong way to determine if a different way of living life should or should not be a diagnosis as a disorder Gender identity disorder is not a mental disorder it is a physical condition a mismatch of the way they look and the
