I have loved animals for as long as I can remember I have always known that I wanted to attend college but until my senior year of high school I was unsure of what I wanted to study With my love for animals veterinary medicine seemed to be a natural choice I have had some experience in the field and I am confident that I have made the right choice This past summer I volunteered at a small animal veterinary clinic During that time I had the opportunity to observe what a veterinarian does everyday I enjoyed seeing what my future career could be like Growing up in a suburban community I have always been around cats and dogs but until this semester my experience with large animals was very limited I currently work at the large animal clinic on campus This job has exposed me to many animals such as horses goats and llamas I now have to decide if I want to continue with my original plan of becoming a small animal veterinarian or if I want to pursue my new interest in large animals Hopefully courses that I take through the Honors College will be able to help me make this difficult decision I took an honors ISS class this year through the Academic Scholars Program I enjoyed the smaller class size the opportunity to work one on one with the professor and I even like the extra project that the honors section did that the regular section did not I would like to continue to take honors courses like this one In addition to taking honors courses I plan to take advantage of the opportunity to take higher level classes Next year I plan to take a 400 level animal science class I hope that these classes will help me make my decision of what kind of veterinarian I would like to become I am looking forward to entering the
