Inspirational is a big word but if I could give it a definition it would be Mary McLeod Bethune This inspiration to many people back then and to people today said this quote We have a powerful potential in our youth and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends She was a very inspirational person to those in the past and those of the future Mary was born in a small cabin in Mayesville South Carolina She met her husband Albertus Bethune and they had a son Albertus had to move to Dayton he sent the family out first Mary and her son moved to Daytona Beach Florida her husband came out shortly after Mary started a school because she had always wanted to be a teacher She had a heart of solid gold and wanted to use it by giving those who had nothing something that they could use more in life At her school she taught the African American girls the 3 rs of education reading wrighting and arithmatic She begged for anything that she could get She begged for things like old chairs cushions boxes and tables etc She begged for tools and equipment that she could use to teach She started this school not only was this a big thing because they were girls but this is a big thing because many African American girls had not many job choices She wants to make sure they got the education that they needed so they could not only be as good as men but better than any white women She was a woman of miracles This would be a good holiday because it is celebrating a women who wanted to make a difference She wanted all people to feel equal Mary McLeod Bethune helped many people She wanted to prove that you
