Richard Rodriguez stated that affirmative action has been a big problem and nobody has looked at the deeper issues about it People have automatically assumed someone is not capable of doing something because of their race Whether their Mexican-American or African American they should not be discriminated against I agree that the authors argument that affirmative action affects the poverty classes People are discriminated against all the time as it was stated in the story its Class Stupid The law professor Lino Graglia at the University of Texas ended up in a little dilemma for saying African-Americas and Mexicans are at a disadvantage in higher education because they came from cultures that tolerate failure This caused many of his students to become angry with him and accused him of racism Also the author says in his story that he knew a guy that went to Harvard had to drop out after being there for two years His professors probably looked at it as he was Hispanic so that was the reason why he dropped out when the real answer was because he was poorTherefore middle class are good in the work force but everyone else in the lower class has to suffer because they are being discriminated against With affirmative action gone then everything will become much better and the lower class people will not be excluded This will also result into poor children to become and remain educated Then it will not continue to be unfair for poor whites because whites are not recognized as a minority group Then more whites will go to college and the absence of them not being there will not be a problem In other words Richard Rodriguez felt that affirmative action was wrong for people because it left out the whites in poverty Many people looked at whites living in poverty as trailer-trash or rednecks This caused a great deal for many people and problems with social inequality
