Meaningful education is meant to inspire This inspiration is meant to spark curiosity within students which should lead them to inquire for more knowledge This is the very reason schools and school systems are established They are made in order to house this knowledge known as curriculum and teachers are hired to convey it Devices such as standardized tests are used to measure the amount of knowledge teachers should convey and how well students can retain it These items should be the pillars of a meaningful education but in reality they are hurdles that students are faced withSchool systems have always been associated with learning In order for students to learn they must be evaluated to determine what level teachers should convey the curriculum Standardized tests are the main tools used and are fairly effective but in some instances they can hinder a childs ability to obtain a meaningful education For example Mike Rose tells about the misfortune of his placement test being misread in I Just Wanna Be Average He states in this chapter that students will float to the mark you set Rose explains that just because his score was misread he took on the label that was associated with it leaving him bereft of inspiration to learn and thus hindering from him a meaningful education I had a comparable experience as Rose In Eighth grade I was recommended to take the Academically Gifted test The test results rated me as being partially gifted I had scored highly on the reading and writing portions but I scored poorly on the math and science parts I had already known that I had talent in Language arts and that I somewhat struggled in science and math but I thought it would be nice to prove myself wrong The tests actually lowered my self-esteem because I took on the status that the test gave me Consequently school systems are based off of education paradigms According
