Imagine a group of children in the United States that go to schoolswith different economic backgrounds All the children have the samedrive to go to college and become successful in their chosen career Thekids have different probabilities of this happening though because ofthe schools they go to The kids that go to top end schools will have abetter chance of getting into the college that they want to then thekids that go to low end schools This happens because of No Child LeftBehind NCLB should be changed because of how the curriculum is setuphow schools are funded the labeling process and the effect onteachers NCLB was passed in 2001 and signed into law by PresidentBush on January 8 2002 No Child 1 People thought that it wouldhelp to increase the standard of education but when reauthorizationcame up in 2007 the nation was debating over what to do NCLB affectswhat students are taught the tests they take the training of theirteachers and the way money is spent on education GreatSchools 1NCLB was the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary EducationAct ESEA which was the central federal law in pre-collegiateeducation No Child 1 ESEA was passed in 1965 and was reauthorizedin 1994 No Child 1 NCLB was supposed to help improve education forstudents that were not receiving the best education that they could beA couple ways the law hoped to achieve this was by changing thecurriculum and change how schools were funded One reason that NCLB should be changed is because of how thecurriculum is setup One problem with the curriculum is that it is nolonger based on critical thinking problems According to LindaDarling-Hammond the amount of research project work and scientificinquiry has declined because the curriculum is more focused onmultiple-choice tests 5 As a result of this reading scores oftwelfth graders has dropped nationwide The education department wantsmachine scored assessments to be used rather than hand gradedassessments
