With todays top colleges being harder than ever to get in we start criticizing the importance given to nation-wide standardized tests versus other factors in a students application Although standardized test scores may augment chances for many students to make it into elite colleges and get scholarships the tests lack in reliability consistency and content validity they are also socially and culturally biased I believe we should abolish this over reliance on SATs and ACTs scores and have college admissions redirect their focus onto high school GPAs application essays interviews and recommendationsThe reason why SAT and ACT scores have such importance in college application process is its use to predict how students will perform and their graduating chances But is the SAT reliable Does it really represent a student success in collegial studies A survey conducted by Genevieve Hodgi Gay about irregularities of the administration of standardized tests She found through a survey of 168 teachers there was Inaccurate timing altering answer sheets coaching teaching the tests errors in scoringreporting and student cheating1 The school funding is mostly based on their performance on the SAT which explains why teachers would sometimes boost scores of certain sections for student for a better school-wide average Tracking cheating is also very hard to track unless teachers come forwards as they did in Gays surveyThe SATs bias towards the privileged has been an issue for over half a century The critics asserted and much of the public still believes that the SAT is mainly a test of upper-middle-class socialization2 The wealthier families have the power to buy their kids good scores on the SAT From growing up in a wealthy environment and enrolling in private tutoring to looking for a diagnostician who will write up that you kid has attention disorder to provide more time on the test the wealthy have a big advantage over the lower-class Statistics do not lie about this statement as over half of the
