For the past few years Mayor Tom Murphy has been trying to improve Pittsburghs economy He has been working to bring people back into the city For example the city of Pittsburgh has been highly advertising for events such as Light up Night the Regatta and the Forth of July celebrations just to name a few The city of Pittsburgh parking garages are offering free parking on nights and weekends during the holiday season All this in an attempt to attract people to the city Now the mayor is trying to impose a higher alcohol tax as well as cut backs on Public Safety Bureaus This raises many questions in my mind The main question is will the Mayor end up hurting the citys economy after trying for so long to boost it The Mayor is trying to impose a ten percent tax increase on all alcoholic beverages Why would people want to travel to the city if it is going to end up costing them more money Most people when making a day of shopping in the city either start or finish their day with getting a bite to eat and having a couple drinks Drinks in the city are already outrageously priced considering what a bottle of liquor costs I have been going to the city for Light up Night for the past few years and before we go we always get something to eat in the city Even though I am not yet old enough to drink some of my friends are and they will now want to eat here in Butler County where they do not have to pay an arm and a leg for a drink One consideration would be for restaurant owners to lower the price of food to compensate for the higher price of drinks but is this really fair to them One of the biggest attractions for college students living in the city is the bars
