If someone told me seven months ago that Id be crying just at the sight of my brother I would have laughed right in their face I couldnt have been more wrong After living with my brother for eighteen years I began to take him for granted I knew he would be right there if I knocked on his bedroom door or even called out his name I liked the comfort of him being around whenever I needed help We might not have had the best relationship but I really looked up to him because he was the most accomplished person in our family Cory was the first to go to college the first to graduate and the first to enter the National Guard Of course I was proud and encouraged his decision but I had no idea that meant hed be gone for over five months at basic training I knew the time was coming the atmosphere in the room was very thick Everyone was avoiding eye contact constantly looking at the floor and whispering constantly How do you say goodbye to someone who has always been there I remember the last I hug I gave him before he left as if it was yesterday I could feel my pulse racing and my breathing become labored as if I just ran several miles I came up to Corys side and said Well I guess this is goodbye but Ill be seeing you soon I could hardly get those words out because tears were soon running down my face and I was embarrassed that I was the first one to break down He immediately pulled me into a very tight hug and kept repeating how much he loves me and how hell miss me I knew I was going to cry but I had no idea that Id actually be sobbing in the middle of my living room with everyone standing around us watching It
