Even though some of the content may not relate to younger audiencesthe Catcher in the Rye does have value for younger readersThe book values young readers because it teaches them how hard life isif you run away Holden ran away because he got expelled from PenceyPrep he had to survive on his own for the rest of the book which causedhim to mature extremely fast I knew someone who got yelled at by herparents for bad grades and ran away for a day She ended up coming homebecause of how hard it was by herself and she was scared This bookshows how hard it is to survive on your own and that you would be betteroff facing the consequences of your guardians than trying to live onyour own It also shows how life is when a person is mature and hasresponsibility Another instance of how life is when a person runs awayis that a person matures greatly The girl who ran away really maturedover the day she was gone It was scary how fast and how much shematured in the short amount of time that she was away from home In thebook you can see Holden mature at an accelerated rate and as a result ofthis he makes some questionable decisions He also seems to be bipolarbecause at one minute he wants to be doing something and in the next hewill want to do something else Holdens experiences help teach youngreaders about how life is if they were to run awayAnother value that can be learned from Catcher in the Rye is that yourdecisions can affect the rest of your life Holden makes the decision tonot apply himself in school and he ends up getting expelled Beingexpelled ruins your shot at most jobs and if you cannot get a job howcan you live I know someone who got expelled from school He was agreat football player and had a scholarship to play in college One
