More About Jamie
I am a self-proclaimed nerd and very proud of it! My passion in life is teaching high school students about literature and writing--nothing compares to the thrill that comes from seeing teenagers fall in love with and become passionate about English. My experience grading a wide variety of writing assignments from students with a huge range of abilities has made me experienced in editing all types of documents. If you need to cut words, add analysis, fix grammar, or know whether you fulfilled the assignment requirements, I can help you figure it out! I always try to explain the changes I make so you can learn through the editing process (can you see my inner teacher shining through?). I started editing for fun at a young age, and I'm thrilled to have the chance to edit in a professional capacity!
What types of documents do you enjoy editing the most?
I particularly love working with literary analysis essays because I am fascinated by people's interpretations of literature! I studied literature in college and teach it at the high school level, so I'm particularly comfortable editing those types of documents. However, I also love editing personal statements or documents that teach me something new! Regardless, my number one goal is to take a document as it is and find ways to help the author's knowledge, passion, and voice rise to the surface. I am passionate about the written word, and I get so much joy out of helping others feel proud of their work.
In what subject areas are you an expert?
I'm hesitant to call myself an "expert" in anything because there's always something new to learn! However, as it pertains to editing, I'm pretty close to "expert level" in grammar (especially punctuation), MLA, and literature analysis. I have spent a lot of time perfecting my abilities in those areas, and I have honed my skills during my years working as a teacher. Outside of the editing world, I consider myself an expert in The Great Gatsby and Hamilton (the musical); I have spent more time than I ought to admit studying every facet of these monumental works of art!
What do you do when you’re not editing on Kibin?
When I'm not editing, I'm probably in my classroom, teaching writing and literature to a room full of delightful, funny, incredible juniors in high school. I absolutely love being a teacher; I get to discuss literature all day AND engage in meaningful conversations with people just on the brink of adulthood. If I'm not teaching, chances are that I'm curled up on the couch with a cat and a cup of tea, reading a really good book. I'm also an avid traveler and try to average a trip out of the U.S. at least twice a year.
