Hello there! I'm April, and I live in Phoenix, AZ. I've been an editor for about 8 years. I am a major nerd (I have a Lord of the Rings–related tattoo if that helps explain it...), and I stumbled across my passion for editing through an editorial internship in college many years ago. I've been hooked ever since. It makes me happy to make my clients happy, and I do my best to provide edits that help you present your ideas in the best way possible and that help you learn and grow as a writer in the process.
My top two specialties are in personal statements/admissions materials and anything related to marketing.
I have a background in higher ed and in management, and I have read a lot of resumes and personal statements in my day! I love helping students figure out how to make their unique qualifications, skillset, and background shine in an admission statement to any type of program. It's such a joy to help you discover how to present your best self while retaining your own personal voice. Don't let a personal statement overwhelm you! Even if all you've got is a (very) rough draft, I can help you find the areas where you can stand out and highlight the amazing qualifications you bring to the table. It can be hard to describe your whole life and background in one short statement, but I'll help you discern what sorts of information/experiences are most powerful to include. I can even help you with brainstorming if you're stuck!
Additionally, I love helping clients produce copy that communicates the value of their product or service. I have a strong marketing background—running an Apple education store for many years is where I grew my knack for connecting to customers and clients with engaging content. Need help polishing your website? Writing a social media blurb? Making sure your blog post is relevant and exciting enough to reach more customers? I got you!
Lastly, I have so much fun editing creative projects, especially young adult fiction! I also love anything related to journalism or poetry. But really, I just love editing in general, so it's a joy to work on any kind of document where I can help clients improve their writing and their own personal writing skills.
Personal statements, literature, marketing, journalism, non-fiction, fiction, creative writing, music, grammar, and punctuation, and MLA, Chicago, AP, and APA styles.
My freelance business, Westmarch Editorial, keeps me busy, as does my job editing for a large government contractor. I also love playing guitar, singing, seeing live music, playing board games, and reading!
