More About Jessica

I've been writing all my life, and to me, the mastery of words is a labor of love. I have had several publications, including writing for eHow.com for a few years, and I blog regularly. I also spent several years as a Medical Language Specialist, transcribing and editing medical reports. I'm a graduate of the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco, where my concentrations were writing, research, and social justice. Academic writing is a particular favorite of mine; in addition to my own work at university, I helped to edit and polish the work of other students who struggled with writing, especially those whose first language was not English. I found that experience very fulfilling and decided to continue doing it in a professional capacity, and my experience now includes successfully editing work from the undergraduate through doctorate levels. Currently, I camp out in central Pennsylvania, where I grew up, mostly reading, writing, drinking matcha lattes, and discussing everything from radical politics to psychology, from technology and science to spirituality.
What types of documents do you enjoy editing the most?
I enjoy editing a wide range of document types. I like variety, and one of the biggest perks of editing as a profession is getting to read about many different topics in many different voices. I do love a juicy, compelling research paper in the social sciences, but I also have a strong affinity for technical papers, such as medical, mathematical, and other scientific reports.
In what subject areas are you an expert?
My areas of study have been sociology, political science, psychology, history, and other areas within the social sciences, as well as English and creative writing. I was also trained and worked as a medical transcriptionist/Medical Language Specialist for several years, so I'm very familiar with medical language/terminology.
What do you do when you’re not editing on Kibin?
Besides reading and writing, I spend an inordinate amount of time on Facebook, and I frequent bookstores, coffee shops, and friends' houses. I love to travel whenever I get the opportunity, and I'm a music lover who dabbles in piano and vocals. I'm also a huge foodie who loves to cook—and eat sushi! Taking long walks and getting immersed in the natural world helps me clear my head and get grounded, and I also enjoy meditation and practical spirituality.
