More About Whitney
I enjoy helping people develop their logic and voices. My background in journalism, teaching, and critical theory has helped me to develop an editing style that provides suggestions, resources, and advice, while also asking pertinent questions. I have a BA in Communications and Media Studies and an international, dual MA in Gender and Ethnicity. Currently, I work as a researcher, writer, and editor, mostly in academia and the arts. I have a background in journalism, teaching, youth/social work, reality television (I know), and pouring countless cups of coffee.
What types of documents do you enjoy editing the most?
My favorite texts to edit tend to be texts with an emotional charge, so often that is personal statements, application essays, or texts based in the humanities, politics, and the arts. I appreciate if writers or companies want to work with me over time on multiple or longer projects so that I can get an even better feel of exactly how to help and challenge them to communicate in the ways that are most effective for them, their goals, and their audiences.
In what subject areas are you an expert?
Some subjects or areas in which I have a good deal of experience are: humanities, theory, social work, journalism, media studies, gender studies, postcolonial studies, new materialisms, feminist theory, queer theory, trans* studies, disability/crip theory, social justice and human rights, pedagogy, history, literature, philosophy, research methods, curriculum development, case work, public health, policy, resumes, promotional copy, academia, CVs, cover letters, personal statements.
What do you do when you’re not editing on Kibin?
Sometimes I get my hands into video production, organizing events, gatherings, and conferences, creating workshops, and, of course, very poorly sung (but emotionally performed) karaoke.
