More About Becky
I've been editing full-time for almost a decade, and I love making good copy even better. Some people are specialists, but I consider myself a jack of all trades. In fact, variety is what keeps me so interested in my profession.
What types of documents do you enjoy editing the most?
With my background in marketing and consumer insights, I'm good at editing corporate documents and making dull copy sparkle. I've also worked in education and other nonprofits, so send me your reports, presentations, websites and whatnot. You can have me look over your cover letters and resumes because I also work as an editor and manager for a staffing company. Oh, I'd love to help you with your book!
In what subject areas are you an expert?
• multicultural and global issues (I have lived in Taiwan, Uganda, Tanzania, the US, and France) • consumer insights, with expertise in health/beauty, food/beverage, home/fashion, hotel/hospitality, and demographics • ESL • job search • languages and linguistics • press releases and web copy • music
What do you do when you’re not editing on Kibin?
I have several other clients for whom I write, edit and translate (FR>EN). In my downtime, I enjoy watching French films, traveling overseas, experimenting with recipes from all over the world, watching and reading sci-fi, biking (Minneapolis is the #1 biking capital in the US!), playing piano, singing jazz standards, and playing Words with Friends. I have a clever husband, three thoughtful (most of the time) children, and two gorgeous but naughty kittens.
BA in journalism and French, MA in comparative linguistics
Proficient in most styles, especially AP, MLA and APA
US, UK or Canada styles
Based in Minneapolis (US Central Time) but have lived all over the world
Client Feedback and Praise
You did another unexpectedly wonderful job, Becky. You really cut through the haze that my work was trapped in. Much of what you removed, I didn’t miss at all. And what you did remove and I did miss, showed me the important elements I wanted to include. Those insights saved me a lot of heartache. You probably saved me a week’s worth of frustrating edits. Thanks again for all your help, Austin
This may be the best line edit I have ever received. Becky S. went above and beyond. The book is better for it.
Great suggestions. Especially regarding leaving out the dates of the rotation and condensing my bullet points. I have read my CV maybe 30 times and never caught the ESL mistake.
Thanks so much, Becky! I really appreciate you paying attention to the details on this piece! Great comments! :)
I LOVE the changes that were made to my CV. It looks amazing! Thank you so much!!
