More About Charles
Originally from Australia, the home of the Vegemite sandwich, I resettled on the island of Pulau Pinang, Malaysia, about five years ago. Since moving to Malaysia, I have focused on editing manuscripts written by non-English speaking academics from several Malaysian universities intended for publication in some of the world's leading scholarly science journals. Unlike many other editors, my background isn't in the literary arts. I was originally a Mental Health Nurse, trained in the psychotherapeutic treatment of personality disorders. My own research interests lie in understanding the genesis of borderline personality disorder and its childhood precursors. I have also taught both undergraduate and post-graduate level nursing and psychology. So it would be fair to say that my editing interests lay in academic papers. I am the father of two gorgeous, if exceptionally noisy, little girls.
What types of documents do you enjoy editing the most?
Because my background is in academia and social sciences, I tend to enjoy editing papers with a focus on the sciences, especially essays, case reports and journal publications. Academic and journal writing tends to be highly structured, and in addition to helping to correct your grammar, punctuation, and word usage, I can usually offer some insights on how best to structure a paper in order to increase your chances of getting your work published.
In what subject areas are you an expert?
APA (6th edition) and AMA (10th edition) are probably my strong points, but I am also experienced with the Chicago/Turabian style, MLA, and ACS styles. That said, many journal publishers have their own house styles, so please be sure to identify the name of journal that you intend to publish in so that your editor can locate the house style for that particular journal. Given my vocational background, I would identify my areas of expertise as being nursing, psychology, psychiatry, sociology, and research methodologies. And, yes, I am a self-professed nerd.
What do you do when you’re not editing on Kibin?
Eating, mostly. Seriously, Penang is renowned as the food capital of Malaysia, so there's always something interesting worth putting in my mouth. I'm also into motorcycles - the bigger, the louder, the faster, the better. But, truth be told, gardening and parenting is probably what you'll find me doing most of the time when I'm not eating...I mean...editing (Freudian slip!).

Client Feedback and Praise
Not much useful information provided. I don't really want to be mean and harsh...but I really feel waste of money because I don't get useful information back. only 3 comments for a 900 words essay...very disappointed... and I have to ask someone else to proof read it again...
I thought you did a very good job.
More than agree with what you edited. Thank you!
