More About Kaitlin

I have 10 years of editing experience and previously worked as an editorial assistant for a university press, a copy editor and later project director for a curriculum development company, and the lead writer/editor for a small publishing group. I am now freelance editing full time and have had the privilege of guiding many manuscripts to publication. I graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in literature and writing. For my senior honors thesis, I oversaw the production of a collection of essays and composed “Results May Vary: A Study of the Editorial Process in Small Press Publishing.” Editing has provided me the opportunity to combine my love of reading and (sometimes!) harsh critical nature into something that can actually benefit others, and there is little more satisfying than helping writers smooth out the rough edges and achieve their intended meaning and effect clearly and concisely.
What types of documents do you enjoy editing the most?
Book-length manuscripts, research papers, theses and dissertations, blog posts, and resumes, especially if you need design help—I know some easy Word formatting tools that can quickly polish up the look of your document.
In what subject areas are you an expert?
I have a degree in literature with a minor in writing, so I have a deep knowledge of literary criticism, the Western canon of literature (especially Romantic, Victorian, and 20th century), grammar and usage, and publishing. I have taken courses in philosophy and theology and edited for a number of organizations with religious affiliations, so I have a strong background in comparative religion, the basics of analytic and Continental philosophy, biblical criticism, Christian thought (especially Wesleyan), feminism, and the development of Western culture.
What do you do when you’re not editing on Kibin?
Dance to "Daniel Tiger" songs with my little ones; crochet, even when the temperate San Diego climate makes it seem silly; watch British television with my husband (especially Doctor Who!).
