More About Ryan
Hi - I'm Ryan, and I'm excited help you take your writing to new heights! I recently earned my MFA in Fiction Writing from a literature-based program, following a BFA in Creative Writing with an English minor. For several years, I have taught English composition courses, tutored a diverse student body in a writing center, and designed online learning modules for comp and business writing. I was also an editor for three separate literary journals, one of which required web content generation and management. I like to use what I learned from a grad school grammatical pedagogy course and mix this with my teaching philosophy in order to make editing a pleasurable learning experience, to create a two-way street between writer and editor. I look forward to not only making your work look more "polished" but also helping you become a more confident writer and efficient communicator!
What types of documents do you enjoy editing the most?
I enjoy learning new things, so all kinds - English, medical, science, history, fine arts, and etc. essays, business writing, fiction, non-fiction, web content, resumes, cover letters, personal statements and other application materials, ESL docs - the list goes on. If it has words, then I'm happy to strengthen the content and make the language more concise.
In what subject areas are you an expert?
English composition, argumentative and business writing, ESL, literary and genre fiction (short stories and novels), non-fiction (especially personal essays), literary publishing/editing, and job/academic application materials.
What do you do when you’re not editing on Kibin?
On rotation, I read, write, play video games, make music in my home "studio," cheesemonger, rock climb, bike, hike, and box a bit with the heavy bag. I'm also a big fan of finding new board games and tricking my friends into playing them with the offer of a good home-cooked meal.
