What has technology done to us in the past fifty years We have gone from having to be tied to a wall to make a phone call to being able to call around the world from almost any remote location We have changed from watching television at home in the living room to being able to stream Hulu or Netflixs and watch out favorite shows anywhere we can grab an internet connection Visiting with friends has evolved to be done through social websites and other mediums Technology as we all know has vastly improved our way of life and has changed the world forever there is no doubt in that Much glory has been given to these major advancements in the last fifty years without much insight on the possible side effects or negative outcomes from the overuse and abuse of these technologies It is my belief that these rapid advancements in information technology have radically altered the way we function mentally as individuals and has caused some rather unseen or unnoticed new problems in societyAs I begin to write this paper I am sitting at my grandmothers dining room table and I begin to think about the huge differences in one generation to the other One of the first things that I notice in comparison is that my grandmother 90 years old to myself 26 years old is the way we absorb information around us My grandmother reads and reads and then reads some more She starts her day by patiently reading the newspaper from front to back She enjoys spending her free time reading hardback novels and reminiscing that which once was She takes home the bulletin from church and reads it from front to back She seems utterly numb to the technology that has developed around her whole life that could aid her in some of her day to day routines She could read the paper online gather a
