No war has had a more profound effect on the United States of America than the Civil War Its outcome not only determined the political future of the country but also how American Society would develop The outcome of the Civil War has affected almost every American living today Due to the Civil War 620000 lives were taken During the time period there were only 30 million Americans In other words 1 out of 50 Americans were killed In other words 1 out of 12 boys and men died in this war It was called the Bloodiest War It pitched brother against brother and father against son The Civil War split the country in half And in the case of Virginia the state itself was split in half Before the Civil War the North had grown into a more manufacturing and fast growing area Plenty of people had been not using slaves any longer The slaves were put in the factories and got paid just not very much Yet the South had remained the basic idea They still had been using plantations and slaves They did use machines for farming or any other purpose They relied on the slaves When President Lincoln was elected problems arose He banned slavery in all the country which caused problems for the Southern States They still needed the slaves Because of the problems the South Carolina voted to secede or break away from the country This was just a month after Lincoln was elected president The next year in January of 1861 other states follow Mississippi Florida Alabama Georgia and Louisiana secede Then quickly after Texas secedes After that Jefferson Davis is inaugurated as president of the Confederate States of America commonly called the rebels by the northern states Just weeks later in March of 1861 President Lincoln was inaugurated as president of the Union Although during the time of the Civil War Lincoln was not a very popular
