Amanda Wingfield is an abandoned wife and single mother living in a small apartment in St Louis She dreams of the future for her children and is a good mother She is fixated at the oral stage because she has dairia of the mouth in other words she talks too much She showed signs defense mechanism such as denial when at Lauras college she denies that the professor is talking about her daughter and when she denies that her daughter Laura is crippled She is dominated by the id because she is constantly wishing for her children to get better jobs improve their lifestyle and such Laura Wingfield is Amandas daughter and Toms younger sister Laura has a bad leg on which she has to wear a brace and walks with a limp Twenty-three years old and painfully shy she has largely withdrawn from the outside world and devotes herself to old records and her collection of glass figurines She has some ego in her because she realizes that she is extremely shy and is crippled She tries to run away from situations for example when Amanda and Tom began arguing she immediately went into the other room to keep herself busy with something until they stop or when she dropped out of collage due to a public humiliation Top also said that Laura has an apologetic manner which means she feels guilty for unneeded things which is Moral anxiety Tom Wingfield is Amandas son and Lauras older brother An aspiring poet Tom works at a shoe warehouse to support the family He is frustrated by the numbing routine of his job and escapes from it through movies literature and alcohol and smoking Tom loves his mother and sister but he feels trapped at home They are dependent on his wages and as long as he stays with them he feels he can never have a life of his own Tom is fixated
