Comparison Contrast Of All Quiet On The Western Front We Were Soldiers The Novel All Quiet on the Western Front and the movie We were soldiers starring Mel Gibson are both stories about the war The both have similar and different Themes Protagonists and Plots The brutalities of the stories are similar the compassion of the main characters is similar but the plots of the novel and the movie are different Firstly The themes to each of the stories are very similar In the Novel one of the themes are the brutality of war which is described in every scene in the novel At the end of the novel almost every major character is dead symbolizing the wars effect on young men who were forced to fight it Another theme is The Effect of War on the Soldier it is set among soldiers fighting on the battlefield They go without food and sleep clothing or medical care They are forced to deal with the sudden deaths of their close friends Paul States We march up moody or good-tempered soldiers--we reach the zone where the front begins and become on the instant human animals We Were Soldiers Also has the theme of the horrors of war This movie is extremely violent gory and frightening The Scenes were very realistic and many people died throughout the movie The movie supports as a tribute to the fighting men but not to the politicians and desk generals who used them with no purpose The two stories both have themes about the brutality and horror of war Secondly The Main Characters of the novels are both compassionate individuals In All quiet On the Western Front Paul is the protagonist and narrator of the novel He is a kind compassionate and sensitive young man As a result of the war he becomes unable to mourn his dead friends unable to feel at home among his
