Jem and Scout Comparison Essay The novel To Kill A Mockingbird written by Harper Lee has many comparisons between Jem and Scout Scout and Jems relationship with Atticus Dill how they view school and how the attitudes of the townspeople affect Jem and Scout are key points that allow the reader to truly understand their differences Jem and Scouts relationship with their dad Atticus is almost similar but Jems is stronger Scout has a great deal of respect for Atticus but she wants to be different from Atticus while Jem wants to be the same Jem has a very strong relationship with Atticus The children learn a lot from Atticus like how they should treat blacks the same as whites Jem and Atticus also have a great amount of trust for each other Jem and Scouts relationship with Dill is different Jem spends a large amount of time playing with Dill over the summer even though Dill is younger than him by two years Scout likes Dill very much and wants to play with him but Jem and Dill start going off without her Jem also likes Dill When Jem and Dill play they begin to leave out Scout Jem and Scout have two completely different views about school Jem enjoys it and Scout despises it Jem Learns from school but Scout gets punished for her knowledge of writing and reading Jem says she will start to like it when she enters the sixth grade because you start to learn new information The attitudes of the townspeople affect both Jem and Scout in different ways Jem tries to control himself and ignore the townspeoples comments but after a while he takes all of his anger out on Mrs Debouses flowers Scout wants to fight anyone that says anything about Atticus but she starts to control her temper after Atticus talks with her Thought this novel Harper Lee shows Jem maturing into a
