The American and French Revolutions were similar and yet very different Their outcomes were equally similar and different The principles that were fought for were the same that is they both believed in freedom and equality The reasons for starting the revolutions were very different The Americans fought for independence from the British because of unfair taxation without representation The French fought to overthrow the unlimited monarchy because of years of heavy taxing and the lack of anyone trying to solve the debt problem France had Both of them succeeded but in very different ways After the British surrendered the Americans stuck together and drafted a government After time they found that this new government didnt work so they changed it This government worked extraordinarily well compared to many other countries governments at the time After France drafted their new government they were happy with the results until after time nothing got accomplished One person realized this and seized power as a Dictator This person made the people turn against themselves and killed lots of innocent people for trivial things It took France a while to realize they had gone from one form of monarchy to another losing the ideals they had fought for After realizing this they removed the dictator and drafted another government Both revolutions succeeded but neither of them on the first try Americans succeeded first probably because all of them believed in the cause they were united The French were still divided arguing about the best course of action The arguing slowed things down and in some cases made progress impossible or close to impossible
