The Differences and Similarities of Oedipus and Creon Looking at Oedipus and Creon they hold the same positions and act similarly to a certain extent Oedipus and Creon have there own style of motivation intention and goals that are showed throughout Oedipus the King Oedipus at Colonus and Antigone written by Sophocles They are two of the major characters associated within the three plays At first they are displayed to be different but through out the plays they are considered alike Oedipus first makes his appearance as the king of Thebes He gained this loyal spot by solving the Sphinx riddle Hes had no experience at king let alone being part of a royal family Oedipus had no real motivation to become king he had no idea that he had a chance to be ruler His motivation begins after the fact that he became king of Thebes He is motivated to help the kingdom from its illness the crops are diseased poverty is striking the people and everything is becoming worse It was no man asleep you awoke-ah no - But one in bitter tears and one perplexed in thought found wandering Who clutched the only remedy that came to send the son of Menoeceus Creon- my own Jocastas brother- to the place Apollo haunts at Pythia to learn what act or covenant of mine could still redeem the state7 Oedipus seems very sure of his words and is determined to find the cause and solve the problem that has arisen He just wants the people of the state to feel safe However Creon on the other hand at this point is merely the Queens brother and is not in power His motivation is to figure out what has caused this plague in Thebes and his first conviction lies on Oedipus We
