A Comparison of Two Major Baroque Composers via Psalm: Monteverdi and Scarlatti
This compare and contrast of two psalms from opposite ends of the Baroque period sets out to see if examination of the two pieces can demonstrate how music changed over the era. Looking at psalms by Monteverdi ("Confitebor tibi, Domine" [Psalm 110]) and Scarlatti ("Laetatus sum" [Psalm 112]), the student finds the styles to be similar to the point that the comparison has little to offer for the essay's interpretive project.
