American civil liberties activist Jerry Ruben once said Every person on the streets of New York is a type The city is one big theater where everyone is on display I am proud to call New York City my home town The people places and attractions all add to it majesty Being born in New York City you are instantly given the gift of pride You realize you are attached to one of the most famous cities in the world You know that when you state where you are from peoples imaginations instantly begin to conjure up visions of movie stars skyscrapers and busy streets As a native of New York City I have been able to witness its majesty first hand I know what it feels like to be one of a million in a crowd I have been mesmerized by the time square light Ive been looked down upon by the empire state building I have walked less the two blocks and felt as if I had traveled miles away to another country New York is a city of strangers It is one of the few places where you can be pressed against a person you have never said a word to and not care Each time I see these strangers helping one another it helps to build my faith in mankind The city may move fast but we are always willing to take the time to help someone else New York is made up of five boroughs My home borough is the Bronx I credit the Bronx for making me who I am When people try to discredit my hometown I am reminded by the poem The Bronx by Felix Lugo My favorite line in his poem exclaims We may be called a lower class but at least the Bronx has class I consider myself to be one of the lucky few to be able to say I grew up in New
