An Unjust World The world that was depicted through the eight stories and two song lyrics that were read in class was a very unjust world For starters there are countless examples of discrimination against those of lower social standings The poor or less fortunate people are in most cases treated more like animals than human beings Also the people in these stories show a lack of priorities and morals They make poor decisions and for the most part do not even realize the decisions were immoral In addition the people who are not making these bad choices are suffering or experiencing hardships most of which are not deserved Taken as a whole the world revealed through these selections is one of discrimination poor judgment and many hardships First of all there were many occurrences of bigotry against those less fortunate On the other hand there were a few occasions when those of lower standings were treated fairly as was the case in the story The Guest Daru treated the Arab more than fair he treated him as an equal But for the most part prejudice was a prominent feature of the characters in the stories One example would be in the story The Heavenly Christmas Tree The little boy in this selection was very hungry and cold He essentially had nothing his mother had just died and he went out looking for something to eat or somewhere to stay When he found a nice house with other little kids and lots of nice food on the table he tried to get inside unnoticed but was very quickly yelled at and pushed out The people that pushed him out in such a hurry basically just saw a dirty less fortunate little boy and were so disgusted by him that instead of handing him a piece of cake and letting him warm up they threw him back out on the streets This is
