Question 3 The highway of the upright avoids evil he who guards his way guards his life Pride goes before destruction a haughty spirit before a fall Better to be a lowly spirit and among the oppressed than share plunder with the proud Proverbs 1617-19 To err is human the only difference between a good man and an evil man is pride and the inability to correct his mistakes In biblical times when Moses set out to free Gods people from Egypt the Pharaoh refused because pride blinded him He could not see that building his great city on the backs of the Hebrews was not just wrong but immoral And like Uzziah his pride led to his downfall 2nd Chronicles 2616 Even after many downfalls of his own the Pharaoh still insisted on not freeing the Hebrews it takes the devastation of the death of his son for him to free the Hebrews However his hubris causes the continuation of his sin as he changes his mind and chases down the Hebrews as they walk to the Promised Land One might argue that ones sureness is not a crime that it is a showing of self-worth independence and dignity The Pharaoh only saw his all-mighty control and his supremacy and eminence reaping from the work of the slaves He saw nothing of the injustice he attributed to the slaves built his great city It boils down to pride the underlying reason between fixing a mistake and denying one was wrong Admitting one was sinful hurts your pride apologizing hurts your pride but it is not all for the better Damaging ones pride might make a huge difference in the major choices in ones life and in the long run a little pride may help with a little self-realization
