Whether it was a magical experience or a horrific one if you went to a high school prom I am sure that it was a night to remember For so many teenagers the prom is the highlight of high school It is the one school event many students look forward to in their high school years Many see it as a rite of passage into adulthood but proms can also be a disaster Prom short for promenade is a formal dance held for high school students and their dates near the end of the school year One may think prom is a time of pure carefree celebration but it can be a rather chaotic and stressful time There are usually high expectations for girls to impress their dates by outdoing their friends in a sense of elegance Girls prepare themselves for prom weeks in advance They go to tanning beds look for the perfect dress search for the most suitable accessories and they get their nails and hair done to perfection Boys are not burdened with such a heavy burden as girls but they are often the ones who are placed with the task of asking their dates to go to the prom which can be very stressful because of the fear of rejection After the extensive pampering and preparation the males drive in a group limo or a caravan to pick up their dates Pictures galore of each couple are taken with the full attire tuxedos evening gowns corsages cummerbunds and bouquets After arriving at the location the prom is being held the males show their chivalry by opening and closing doors escorting their dates down the carpet and under the flowery trellis Casual socializing takes place on and around the dance floor The dancing is sparse until that one hit song plays and everyone bombards the dance floor After dancing one can find catered desserts such as strawberries dipped in chocolate to look
