Ryan Ingerson Modern Drama Strinberg Writing Assignment The term survival of the fittest means that the best of all the competitors will be victorious in the end Being the best can be applied in many different aspects of life Some of the fittest have been the strongest and bravest They survive by relying on their strength to keep them at the top Others that are weaker and more timid rely on their intellect to claim the victory For this reason being the best of the best doesnt always mean that one certain group of things have to always be the ones at the top In the case of humans men are usually the winner between the battle of the sexes In similar cases people of a higher rank control the people below them but when these certain people that arent the best find ways to get around the publics belief many things can occur August Strinberg is a classic example of a man who seems to route for the underdogs In his plays The Father and Miss Julie there are two cases of where the person in a lower position of power bring the person of the higher power down and below the level of the people they once commanded They use tactics that arent brute strength and they dont come straight at them either They find ways here and there to slowly drive the person to insanity in The Father and suicide in Miss Julie The importance of these things occurring is because of its rarity and unlikeness In the times of these plays it was almost unheard of for these acts to be committed and the final results to be the way the ended up being In the play The Father there is a family that it is focused on The father is an old captain and is looked up to as an authority figure in the town that he
