Great Expectations In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens Pip is an orphan who is raised by his sister and her husband Joe is the parent Pip needs and he is a better parent than Mrs Joe Joe is the parent Pip needs because he encourages Pip and teaches him lessons Joe acts fatherly towards Pip when he says Dont you tell me no more of em Pip pg 694 Joe is being fatherly because he is telling Pip not to lie anymore and fathers are supposed to tell their sons what to do and what not to do Joe is teaching Pip a lesson which is that lying is bad Pip shows how Joe helps him when he says There was some hope in this piece of wisdom and it rather encouraged me pg 694 Joe gave Pip hope when he felt low and uncommon and Joe is father-like by helping him feel useful Joe is able to find the good in Pip and not get mad because he loves him like he was his own son Joe is a better parent than Mrs Joe because he doesnt explode or break things He protects Pip from Mrs Joes violent attacks When Joe says and she got up and she made a grab at Tickler and she Rampaged out pg 677 it proves he is a better parent and that Mrs Joe is violent The Tickler is a evil little weapon Mrs Joe uses to hit Pip However Joe doesnt have a weapon he doesnt rampage or try to attack Pip like a wild mad man because he is more parent-like Drat that boy interposed my sister frowning at me over her workwhat a questioner he is pg 679 Mrs Joe is getting really upset just because Pip is asking questions All normal little children are curious and ask questions but Mrs Joe gets furious at this normal
