Love and the Collective Unconscious In Viktor Frankls Mans Search for Meaning he states The salvation of man is through love and in love Human beings are unique beings They have emotions and ambitions they can think and reflect but most important they can interact with one another and grow to love Love is the greatest feeling humans can experience Society will agree that love is wonderful yet the majority never realize the true potential of love nor do they have the knowledge to practice love In general society can be cruel and heartless toward real virtue of any kind However as humans there are feelings of love and joy that stir up in ones everyday life which can accentuate humans loving nature A review of the protagonists change of behaviour in the following novels will verify that the desire to and for love is part of the collective unconscious Ebenezer Scrooge from Dickens A Christmas Carol Pip from Dickens Great Expectations and White Fang from Londons White Fang To adequately fulfill the concept of ones collective unconscious one must be familiar with it and understand how it relates to all humans Accordingly the collective unconscious is a concept developed by Carl Jung he believed the human character will continue to grow throughout lifes journey The collective unconscious identifies the existence of tangible perceptions in the psyche that seem to be omnipresent It is commonly known as a collection experiences that all humans are born with Dreams thoughts and desires are all reflections of the collective unconscious Ebenezer Scrooge from Dickens A Christmas Carol is visited by three ghosts in his dreams the Ghost of Christmas Past the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come Significantly dreams are reflections of our subconscious and can reveal truth about oneself Scrooges visions are an example of his true inner feelings which can be applied to the concept of the collective unconscious
