Have you ever done everything possible to get what you no matter how itaffected others around you In F Scott Fitzgeralds novel The GreatGatsby every character seems to be in their own world looking fortheir own desire The problem is that these selfish motivations andactions have negatively impacted other people around them One of themany characters that is unaware of their effect on others is GatsbyGatsby has been in love with Daisy for many years While he was away atwar though she married Tom Buchanan Ever since they had parted waysfive years before he was determined to get her back He wants Daisyall to himself and will do anything to win her back no matter whoselives it changesThroughout the novel Jay Gatsby uses his wealth and power as weaponsHe uses people with the knowledge that he can He is able to manipulateanyone because how known he is Everyone including Nick Carawayeagerly listen to his commands I dont want to do anything out of theway I want to see her right next door 79 Gatsby is nicelydemanding Nick to invite Daisy over for tea Nick gets over the anxietyof the event and willingly helps his neighbor Gatsby is the kind ofcharacter that follows the line You scratch my back and Ill scratchyours In other words when he helps someone they must return thefavor Right you areKnow you next time Mr Gatsby Excuse me68 When the policeman pulls him over Gatsby flashes him a white cardand the officer lets him go I was able to the commissioner a favoronce and he sends me a Christmas card every year 68 This shows ushow Gatsby is the kind of character who needs to receive something afterdoing a favor for someone else Gatsby uses every aspect of his life tohis full advantage He uses his favors wealth and fame to manipulatepeople for his own goodGatsbys motivation through all of his actions is to get his way Consequently Daisys relationship
