Review Wuthering Heights is a haunting tale of unfulfilled love and hatred which takes the viewer to the superb scenery of the wilds of Yorkshire A young servant in the castle named Heathcliff is growing up together with Cathy and this slowly but inevitably leads to a fiery feeling between the people from different walks of life Such passion however timeless it might seem never meets its fulfillment as Cathy decides to marry a rich man on a higher social position Heathcliff is in despair and he leaves determined to take up the struggle by making enough money to become worth Cathy After years he returns as the owner of the Wuthering Heights and a rich man Unfortunately his beloved Cathy soon dies giving a birth to her child The rest of the film revolves around how Heathcliff now diabolical and stone-hearted takes revenge by forcing Cathys daughter to marry his own son and by controlling their life Peter Cosminsky the director of Wuthering Heights created an excellent background based on the unusual intensity of human emotions which deeply appeals to the senses Not only did he excellently show the thrilling dark side of Heathcliff Ralph Fiennes who brings out the despair behind the chilling lack of warmth but he also enriched it by a double contrastive role of Juliette Binoche first as a passionate lover and next as an innocent girl The acting itself is brilliant too Both Ralphs and Juliettes performances are as expressive as the emotions they experience The whole additionally impresses with Mike Southons pictures reflecting the beauty of the landscape as well as melancholic soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto Wuthering Heights is undeniably one of the Oscar-deserving productions especially suitable for those fond of such moving and romantic stories Although unfortunate love has already been a subject
