Aristotle was born in 384 BCE in Greece to a man by the name of Nicomachus who happened to be King Amyntas of Macedons personal physician He was brought up as a member of aristocracy When he was a young man he went to study at the philosopher Platos Academy and remained there twenty years until Platos passing It has been said that Aristotle left because he was unhappy with the new direction the academy was going after Speusippus Platos nephew took over Although it has also been said that he was afraid of the anti-Macedonian sentiments and departed prior to Platos passing Even though he was much favorable of Plato his mindset was a little different he had ideas of his own that led him into much newer and different directions With that being said he moved to Asia Minor with two fellow philosophers by the names of Theophastrus and Xenocrates where they carried on studies for marine biology and botany Xenocrates had a woman friend named Hermias with an adoptive daughter named PythiasIn 342 BCE King Philip of Macedon asked Aristotle to be a tutor for his young son Alexander He gladly accepted the kings offer and also gave lessons to two future kings Cassander and Ptolemy He counseled Alexander to be a good leader to the Greeks and look after friends and family In 336 BCE he decided to return to Athens and establish a school of his own The Lyceum The Lyceum differed from the Academy The people who attended there did not really focus much on math but rather gathering ordering and analyzing human knowledge Aristotle and his students came up with many different collections of information to serve as a basis for scientific works but only one remains All there is left of Aristotles studies seem to be loosely organized lecture notes The range of subjects are as follows biology astronomy physics logic ethics rhetoric literary criticism and of
