2001 Presidential Inauguration Protest Every four years we the people elect a president we believe will do right by us but this year it did not go as the people wanted An issue arose in Florida that would be the key to who won in this presidential race but the US Supreme Court decided that Texas Governor Bush was the victor Who did the people really vote for For now we dont know but with time we will know the truth As time proceeded people were already talking about protesting the Presidential Inauguration What was a day of celebration and shows of power in DC for Bush as he took the Oval Office was a day of protesting for thousands of people from different parts of the United States Since the early morning hours till late after noon legions of angry democrats joined an excess of radical direct action groups in the streets Barricades were broken and bleachers overturned as people expressed their fright at the fate of social justice under the incoming administration This fright seemed to be reflected in the faces of Bush supporters as they encountered demonstrators in the streets through the windows of stretch limos CNN ALLPOLITICS On the TV screen George W Bush was sworn in as the new president As he repeated the words of the oath people painted slogans on black sheets of cardboard Within half an hour they were on their way to the inaugural parade to protest They got off the subway at Metro Center and made their way to Freedom Plaza which was blocked off by jersey walls with police check points the only way to get through All around them was a swarm of angry young people holding signs shouting and handing out leaflets The bleachers where Bush supporters were to sit seemed almost empty perhaps due to the rain falling softly around them and it seemed there were more
