Three to four usually Japanese cars that have been heavily modified line up at the beginning of an empty street and are prepared to race each other to see which of them have the better car Illegal street racing was all the hype in Los Angeles California I was visiting my cousin Rajeewa during the summer of 2000 Rajeewa had bought a metallic black two door hard top 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse around February of that year Having only attended the weekly illegal street race sessions three to four times Rajeewa had never taken part in the races as he believed his car was not fast enough and prudently did not want to lose any money Although admission is free to take part in a race the bet was around two to three thousand dollars a sum Rajeewa was rightfully not willing to lose On completion of his fourteenth month at work for the Los Angeles Gas Company he had received his pay check for the months of April May and June The check which arrived during a heated discussion between Rajeewa and me on the topic of which body-kit he should buy seemed like a sign from God for including the check Rajeewa had a total sum of 6000 The following evening we drove out of town to a shop called MODACAR There we bought a pre-painted fiberglass body-kit a twin turbo Nitrous-Oxide and replaced the stock air intake We also ordered an ALPINE sound system with additional speakers and a CD player The total came to around 3700 Four hours had passed and the skies began to loom with darkness The car was finally done and driven out of the garage after installation I felt excited and missed a breath The Eclipse looked and sounded beautiful and the test run was a breeze The cars pickup 0-60mph had increased significantly and the horse power was increased by an amazing and massive thirty
