In reaction to concerns regarding the state of the earth and its people many different paradigms have formed as to how the earth should be treated and why it should be that way Two of these frameworks are ecofeminism and conservationism Although these two models have fairly contrasting methods and ideas they can be connected through the concepts of dominance and hierarchy While Conservationists promote the idea of humans existing on a higher plane than nature ecofeminists argue that nature should not be dominated as women have been in the past Conservationism exists under the main proposition that humans should make decisions in such a way that will bring about the best results for the most people for the longest duration of time Although this phrase could be an argument to help the preservationist paradigm the conservationists use it to convey the idea that humans should use nature now to their benefit and to think about the future after their current needs are met The conservationists main premise is that nature should help people It exists for the needs of the people and to not use it to its full scope would be wasting it A major theme of conservationism is development and technology Science is an important part of this paradigm because it is through science that people have been able to use the earth for their own good to the extent that they have Gifford Pinchot a main advocate of conservationism helped the movement to grow knowing that it had a mass appeal and a democratic focus Pinchot used his relationship with Teddy Rosevelt who was president at the time to promote his ideas and materialize them in the United States He believed that the world was made for the sole purpose of man and that humans should use it to improve their way of life Unlike the ecofeminists he did not believe that nature should exist for an esthetic value but
