Race to the Finish My legs are burning and slowly going numb as I run over hurdle after hurdle The crowd around me is a blur and the cheers seem distant far away I have had a bad start but I am slowly making my way back to the head of the pack With each hurdle my legs feel more and more like jell-o as I try to maintain my rhythm that will hopefully let my place in the MCAL championship of the 100 meter high hurdles I am slowly gaining speed and finally Ive caught up to the two leaders and I am right behind them gaining speed It is hard to believe that this is my first year of hurdles My cross country coach told me to try track and field instead of lacrosse for a spring sport Track had always interested my so I decided to go for it When I got there I wanted to try something new so I thought hey why not hurdles cant be that hard I could barely lift my legs straight over it with my muscles so tight I spent the entire year trying to get my stride down and work on getting a three step rhythm It was a struggle and all I was ever hoping to do was cross the finish line without falling onto my face Back in the race my legs are starting to wobble but there is only one more hurdle to conquer and then the final stretch As I jump over the final hurdle I am neck and neck with the other hurdles The runner to my left stumbles and has a bad lunge His arms swings long and connects with mine I lose my concentration and stutter step I give all I can gather all my energy and sprint for the finish trying to compensate for my lost step I cross the line 3rd but in no way
