Topic Identity and culture are clearly intertwined How has your experience of culture influenced the development of your own personal identity It was a rainy day The storm caused turbulence The plane was very shaky and we dropped one hundred feet of altitude in five seconds Then all of a sudden it stabilized The lights shot back on and there I was with my family The plane had evaded the storm and we were safe at last We can finally go home I can finally go back to my home My two-month visit to China over the summer has really enlightened me about my own culture I was never sure where I stood I care about being American as well as being Chinese And now Im back in the place where I was born Im back in New York City ready for something even worse than turbulence On the first day of school as a senior I saw many old and new faces On my way to homeroom I greeted most of my Asian friends passing by Despite our good friendship I sometimes feel that I didnt blend in with them Typical Chinese youth have gold chains cellular phones North Face backpacks white shirt black pants and their funky haircuts Its the new trend with all Asians no matter if they are Korean Chinese etc Other kids considered you a typical Asian if you had this type of wardrobe My classic haircut glasses and oriental face were all the accessories that I had along with a shirt and pants However when in a conversation that involved certain things in the Asian culture I seem to know more than the typical Asian in our school Once I got to homeroom I was eager to get my program card while praying that there were no errors on it I took a couple of computer courses and a math course I am very interested in both computers
