Jealousy Jealousy a common emotion but still such a strong emotion Washington Irving once wrote There is never jealousy where there is not strong regard Just how often is that statement really true My personal experience has led me to believe that it is quite frequently the case that some one looks up to the people they are jealous of I was and still am jealous of my teammate competitor and friend Deborah Deborah and I were friends long before we were ever teammates In ninth grade when we met we had much in common We were both good students we were into the same things and generally were looked up to by our peers so it seemed natural that we would become close friends But it was actually this faade of perfection that made us into competitors no matter how nice we were about it We had some of the same classes and ended up ceaselessly competing in this three trivial classes Stupid things like who got a higher grade or whose notes were more detailed but it was all friendly Then one of our mutual friends convinced both Deborah and I to join the lacrosse team with her Well of course we both did other wise there would be no story here So the situation ends up that Deb and I had a monopoly on the defensive positions We were both always starters for JV and were also swingers for the Varsity team all in freshmen year We actually formed an exclusive team between herself and me She would always play a certain position that teamed with the certain position I played This continued into sophomore year where we added onto our lists of achievements we were the two captains of the JV team Then in junior year we both made Varsity and got our guaranteed same positions as starters It was just like a movie right So where did the jealousy come
