The News Correspondents Journal Dear Journal I had seen something I wished I had not my first assassination It would bring me quick fame when I returned home I being the only American Reporter there at the time saw everything I also caught it on film My pictures were fantastic whom you might ask none other than the heir of the powerful Austria the Archduke Francis Ferdinand I later returned to Vienna as my trying to interview the assassin Gaurlo Princip I went to a short press conference to hear the rules of Austria-Hungary His uncle seemed to be upset but I didnt buy it I knew he has something to do with it but I didnt dare speak I did not wish to start another international incident If anyone was in Europe they could tell you there was extreme nationalism It was good for the moral of countries like Italy and Germany Other countries then gained respect for Italy and Germany Imperialism was also spreading Countries wanted new colonies for new markets and raw materials There was also a great military build-up Countries strengthened their armies for fear of other countries For example when one country got a new weapon the other felt threatened and got weapons of their own Thats all I can say for now Chau Dear Journal The Battle of Marne is the first great battle of The Great War Germans decided to be tricky and they tried to sneak through Belgium The brave Belgiums held out for three days blocking the Germans vast army I think they are very heroic for doing so The three-day wait let France and Britain organize troops On September 5 and 12 1914 Paris is saved from the Germans A new form of fighting has evolved Its called trench warfare The armies dig trenches and stay in them while they shoot or the opposing army unexpectedly walks by them The
